Just wondering if anyone has advise on figuring out if bees have invaded my attic. This summer I'm catching 10-15 bees a day in my house and releasing them outside. They are just honey bees, but I'm getting concerned that they have built a hive somewhere in my house. I saw a couple sneak into a hole at our roof peak and suspect the attic. What is the best and safest way to find out if my suspitions are correct?

" I saw a couple sneak into a hole at our roof peak"

My guess is that if they havent moved in yet, they are thinking about it. I'd keep an eye on the hole for a few minutes during the day, if you see them coming and going, better find a beekeeper in the area. The earlier, the better.

Brianna, like Budster mentioned, look carefully at the area you are seeing them and if they have taken up residency, they will be entering and exiting a certain area, then, call a beekeeper. If you have to use an exterminator, use one that is also a beekeeper, and ask him if he can remove them live.

Just got home and all was quiet. All, except for a rather loud humming coming from the light fixture in the ceiling of the kitchen! I am now sure that they have taken up residence. Any ideas how I would go about finding a beekeeper in my area?

Brianna,

I think the Alberta beekeepers association would be a good place to start.

Here is their contact page. If I were you I'd start right at the top and work my way down that page of phone numbers.
