I had a yard last year that had one hive with AFB. I worked on the yard, cleaned it up...propane torched all empty boxes tops, etc. I probably went overboard, but would rather be on the safe side. Other then splitting the lone hive that survived in that yard by three in the spring I followed PSU's advice and left the yard alone....didn't move any new equipment in or out and didn't introduce any new bees.
The yard was inspected yesterday and no foulbrood. My beekeeping friend a few miles away, who had three of six hives last year burned because of AFB, was clean too according to my other buddy 7 miles away as the crow fly's.
So, I think I'll do a few summer splits there and keep my fingers crossed and watch the hives closely.
