What a beautiful state! I flew into Missoula last Tuesday and drove down to Hamilton...I was trying to convince my helicopter pilot buddies I was traveling with to pull over to the side so we could check out some of the many many beehives or at least talk to a Beekeep! If only I had been driving we'd have stopped!

i am in my 2nd year of bee keeping in montana and enjoying it.i am about 50 miles west of missoula and you would have seen alot of beehives if you had come this way as well.most of the hives you see here leave in the fall on trailers.i am told they mostly go to california.it is another one of those signs of spring when the hives reappear in may or so.i am keeping my few here and over wintering them which i am sure produces less honey.we are just at the beginning of the knapweed bloom, which is the only thing here that is still green(unless someone is irrigating)the knapweed is our version of the dandilion,or kudzu down south.everybody complains about it except a few beeks.yeah its an nice place to live and raise bees.at least until the forest fires get going.
