View Full Version : Free (sort of): Back to Basics of Inspections DVD

I have this DVD, it's a pretty good primer on the inspection but you won't want to watch it more than a few times, so rather than sell it, I'm going to propose something different. I'll mail it to whoever wants it. After you watch it, post it here and mail it on. No takers? Mail it back to me.
Anyone interested?

It'll be off to Rob-bee in a day or so, then he can forward it on. Like I said, a good video but not exactly "I need to keep this so that I can refer to it over and over for the rest of my life" material. :)

Got it today and watched it! I think he would have preferred to have some gloves on. Looked like the girls got him a few times. My hands would have look like a baseball glove if I attempted to inspect without gloves.
Sent next one in line a PM to pass along.

Not going to happen. If someone wants to contact the guy who made the video and get him to do so (or send me a hand signed note authorizing me to do so) then that's fine. As it is this is no different than me handing out a book I've already read. Uploading it to youtube would be a violation of the rights of the person who created it. So I will not.

Is this the DVD you all are ripping off? Seems to me like the guy went to a hell of lot of work to produce the thing, only to have it stolen. I suspect that if any one of you had someone take $300-$500 worth of honey out of your hives you'd be mighty unhappy about it.
I'm disappointed that there are folks who feel "entitled" to the fruits of another man's labor without paying for it.

Good point however, it happens in MANY ways all the time. A good example is of a library. They bought the books that you are checking out and reading. Why should you be enititled to the fruits of aotherm ans labor without paying for it? Or Michal Bush typing up all those books and posting them on his web site?
Just examples. :)

Well, you are welcome to an opinion, but I don't really see a difference between this and a library. If I buy a copy of beekeeping for dummies and want to mail it around, would that be different? You will note that I declined to rip & post to youtube. One DVD, being passed from person to person. If it gets lost along the way, so be it. If one person declines to pass it on, not much I can or would do about that either.

Passing it around is indeed legal....... ethical? Maybe, maybe not. But if anyone is making copies then that is where the line gets crossed.
I go around, and around with this issue with my kids. My position on copying music off the internet is that it is theft and takes money out of some musicians pocket. Business models are changing to meet this problem rather than fight it. Like direct sales downloads directly from the artist. I like that concept.

barry, i'm in 100% agreement with you here. this kind of activity makes it less worthwhile for anyone to produce such a thing in the future.
if it is such a good resource (one that has generated 6+ pages of requests for a free loan), how is the producer going to make enough to even cover their costs? to revise it? to produce the next dvd in the series?
it would be much better to post a positive review, and to have local beeclub libraries (or local libraries) to purchase copies.
although this might not technically be stealing...it's durn close...close enough...would anyone tell me i'm jumping to conclusions is i said i can virtually guarantee that some of the people on the circulation list are making copies?....which of course, does make this stealing.
what motivation is there for someone to produce beekeeping videos if this is how they are treated on what is probably the most popular beekeeping forum on the web?
this is a $30 dvd folks...with free shipping.
everyone on this list that has found the dvd to be useful should be ashamed to not purchase a copy!

no, libraries are local institutions. you can get almost anything via an interlibrary loan if you are willing to do the work to make it happen, and are patient.
what is happening here is quite different. using the internet to advertise the desirability of someone elses copyrighted work _and_ to use it as a means to distribute a single copy of said work at the same time.
this is like the difference between loaning a friend a cd and napster.
deknow
jeff123fish
05-08-2008, 06:46 PM
i disagree with napster everyone gets there own copy of a single article.with this we are all allowed to veiw this single article but after words we make the choice, buy our own copy, pass it on to the next person in line, or break the law and copy it. but againyou can make all those same choices with a library card. I don't think anyone here is advocating breaking of the law only sharing an informational disk.
