Any members keeping bees in the Pines? I would swap a jar of treatment free bluegrass freerange flower honey for a jar. I don't know what my bees have been working, but I am guessing it is mostly locust with a little white clover and whatever else grows wild in these fields around here. I have already given away everything I had, so I will have to steal one more frame and extract it special:D

Hi bluegrass, I don't suppose you mean the New Jersey Pine Barrens, do you?

I mean the ones from Tom's river, south to Cape may, and west to Jackson :)
You know; where the devil lives...

I asked since I was a little surprised to see someone from KY asking about honey from the NJ Pine Barrens. I'm about 15 miles west of the barrens and out of range for genuine barrens honey. If I had to guess about the composition of pine barrens honey based on what grows there I'd say the spring honey would composed primarily of laurel and later blueberry nectar. I've heard some scary wives' tales about consuming uncapped laurel honey causing sickness and even death. Right now the Clethra are getting ready to bloom. I'm not aware of any plants native to the barrens that could support a significant nectar flow in the fall. Goldenrod and aster are found in the marginal zones along the edges of the barrens but not in the heart of the barrens.

Oh I was born in Forked River and have alot of family in that area. I love the Pine Barrens, but don't know anybody in that area who keeps bees there. I thought it would be neat to have a jar. I was trying to think what the main flow in that area would be, but other than the pines and the pucker brush I am not familiar with what is growing out there.
