We tried out the bee-vac today and it worked fine. The foam rubber filter that came with shop vac was the perfect size to cut in half and staple inside the package box as a cushion. We had a few dead bees but I think it was from injuring them while reaching way into the cavity we had to get them out of. I don't think there would have been any other practical way of removing them. As a side note, I used a sliding wooden gate on the side of the inner box. As soon as you pull the hose out, it automatically drops down closed. Thanks for everyone's advice and comments. We used the 6 ft 2 1/2" hose with a reducer on the sucking end. I think I'll add a plexiglass window to the outer box so we can watch the process next time.
