I didn't know what to expect and certainly didn't think they would be here this year since I only started in April with 2 hives. But on Saturday two gentleman showed up with their paperwork and state inspector badges and requested to visit the hives. They were really nice and helpful. I was having a question about one of my hives just that morning. One of them was very quiet compared to the other and hadn't started drawing any comb out in the super that I had put on over 4 weeks ago. When we went in there were about 4-5 queen cells just in one frame alone. So I figure they either swarmed or somehow lost their queen. And they were doing so well too. So I will be checking this weekend to see if they are happy again (They were a little more feisty than usual...even Ron the inspector didn't go through all the hive). The other hive that I had been monitoring for any signs that my one mite turned into more on the sbb unfortunately seemed to be loaded with mites in the drone comb. So I powder sugared them and removed as much of the drone comb as I could (with the inspector's help and encouragement). And added the second super.
I was pleased and very satisfied with the inspector... I had read and heard about some horror stories. Ron was teaching the new guy and basically encouraged the new guy to do whatever and handle however the bee keeper wished.
