What are your thoughts on adding shims to hives?

I read that they increase ventillation and allow another entrance/ exit - which may or may not help with nectar/honey collection. Also that you can get some burr comb build up.

Where would you place the shim - between the brood chamber and 1st honey super or on top of the top honey super?

Thank you.

George Imirie was very specific about the use of his shims. Go
