I found the plans for this very simple solar wax melter from a post last year on this site. Yesterday I made a video of how to use it - the resulting wax is gorgeous, perfectly clean and so very easy to do.

Here's the website where I got the plans:

Linda,
We tried the wax melter today and it worked perfectly.
And the best part is that it didn't cost a dime.
Thanks,
Tom

I'm so glad you had such good results, Tom. I love the newly "minted" wax. Gosh, it's gorgeous. I would never previously have considered this, but I'm going to try to enter a block in the September contest my bee club has.
I haven't seen wax this pretty - and I took a beekeeping and candle making course from Virginia Webb at the Campbell Folk School and she wins with her wax all the time (she's the Apimondia winner of the best honey in the world in 2005, I think that was the year). Her wax at the Folk School as well as the wax I saw of hers which won the Young Harris Beekeeping Institute prize this year wasn't as pretty as what my solar wax melter generates.
Of course, who knows if I can pour a pretty 2 lb block?????
