Hi all,
I picked up my four-frame nuc yesterday in pouring rain - today the sun is out a bit and I moved the frames into the new hive body. I couldn't find the queen, but that didn't concern me much compared to not being able to find much brood. I saw a couple drone adults (and lots of workers), some capped drone brood, what looked to me like some capped worker brood, but nothing that I could find that looked like eggs or larvae. Might I have missed them if I didn't look properly? I'm thinking I will let them be for today and go in again tomorrow to look again... any advice?
Thanks,
Julia in Maine

The eggs are really hard to see. You might try using a magnifying glass. But there should be open brood and what looks like a little white worm curled around. Try putting the frame where the sunlight shines on it.

If you didn't see a lot of capped brood you should have seen a lot of larvae in different stages and eggs. You might want to bring a magnifying glass if you aren't used to looking at frames or don't know what to look for. Don't need to actually see the queen if the signs are there that she's laying well. Don't make the visit any longer than need be. You want them to get to work quickly. Tony
