View Full Version : eggs and honey question
I have honey in the top of my frames and eggs in the bottom. Will they move the honey up if I install a super or will they just move up with the eggs also?
Newbe may need help. My hives are 75-95% full in two deeps but honey and eggs on each frame. What do I need to do other then add a super?

Just put your super on top. They need some honey in the broodnest, so I recommend just leaving those frames alone. You might also want to read about Walt Wright's checkerboarding theory. He has a very different perspective on this aspect of management.

JD, I think you would put a qween excluder on now and add a super for just honey. But Im real real new at this.Leave what you already have for the girls.

I am Walt Wright's son-in-law (hence the name).
Walt does not use queen excluders. He believes that the only thing they accomplish is to restrict the movement of the bees.
See his article "Why Queen Excluders Limit Honey Production", Bee Culture, June, 2006. A copy of this, and other articles, may be found in the POV area of this site.
