How many mistakes can a Novas bee keeper make? My 1st visit to the hive was a disaster that I'm still laughing about at this moment. I installed my hive 4 days ago. For the last 3 days its been raining. Today was the perfect day for my first visit. So off I went with tools and bucket. I smoked and opened the hive and my inner cover was stuck to the outer cover SURPRISE. Then I noticed that ALL my bees were home. There seemed to be millions of them. They must have stayed in the hive longer than normal because of the weather, so on this day only a few were out. Then I cut out the comb the girls made around the queen box that stuck everything together and accidentally dropped it to the bottom of a very full hive. After I fished that out I slid the top back on, killing at least 10 bees. Then I promptly stepped into a hole on the way back to the house and sprained my back and ankle. My tools and bucket flew into the air faster than a rocket launched by NASA. How was that for a first day. To top it all off I have the worst small beetle infestation known to man. life is good.

Oh! What a forum for stories. Last Spring my mom and I went out to install our very first package. We forgot to take out half of the frames to pour the bees in, so we had a bulk of bees sitting on top of the frames and couldn't get the top on! Than this last Spring I forgot to put the top back on one of my newly installed packages. How dumb can one bee! (intentional mispelling)
