Today I went out to the field to discover a carpernter bee chewing it's way into my beehive. It was actually pretty interesting as you could hear her eating her way through the wood. I'd like to know, was she trying to get at the honey in the hive or did she jsut assume she had found a nice place to dig in and start up a nest.

She probably just thought she found a nice piece of wood to nest in.

Yup, trying to nest. I'm suprised the honey bees tolerated it.

Might want to plug up the holes as soon as you can, or the wood will end up looking like swiss cheese.

I have one medium super that a carpenter bee used for a nest last year. The new super had been primed with latex and a latex finish coat also. This spring the hole was plugged up using painters putty.
