Thanks to everyone for their help with my powder sugar question. I went out and bought a screened bottom board and followed the instructions from one of the posters to treat the hive with powder sugar.

I am seeing far fewer mites on the bottom board and I will continue with the treatment.

But it looks like I have a new problem. I watched as a bee came out of the hive dragging its back legs. Is this parallysis virus? And what do I do about this? I read that it is genetic and I will need to requeen. Is that all?

Thanks for your help (again):) ,

Liz

I wouldn't necessarily do anything based on seeing one bee dragging it's hind legs. It might have been injured. I wouldn't requeen your hive over this. Deformed Wing Virus, Chronic bee paralysis virus and Acute bee paralysis virus are primarily vectored by mites. The logical approach to these problems is to reduce the mite population. You're doing that. Keep doing that. Keep watching your hives :)
