Hived new packages on Saturday - got 1 1/2 feet of snow Sunday into Monday - and I'm not there. I'm having somebody go by to shovel the entrances clear, but wondering - how long can they survive if the entances (and sbb) are covered? To acknowledge the inevitable suggestion about top entrances - I don't like to use a shim when the hive top feeder is on beacuse they make a big mess with comb - I put the top entrance on when feeder comes off - hence the problem.
Thanks!

Victor, they will be fine. The boxes are far from air tight and they will get vetilation.
It is cold damp and a real mix today. It is supposed to get better by Wednesday and this weekend may even be sunny.
Did you get packages with the Catskill Mtn Beekeepers?

these were NWC from Lazy Bee in Ohio - they arrived in great shape - hope they will excuse the rough welcome. Wasn't completely thrilled with the Russians from Catskill Bee Club last year - I know you had mentioned they were sometimes slow to get started, so perhaps those that over-wintered will put on a good show this year.
2 feet of snow at your place?

Thankfully, no. We are on the right (wrong) side of the hill on this one.
We started with snow on Saturday night, got maybe upto a foot, then it has been changing back and forth between snow, sleet, and rain.
The temps are holding steady now at about 35F, with a very heavy steady rain.
There is supposed to be a very fine line between the snow and rain. East/ West.
They are calling for this to change back over to snow again at the tail end of the storm.
