Barry

As it is now, the title given to each member is as follows:
Junior Member - minimum posts (0)
Member - minimum posts (30)
Senior Member - minimum posts (100)
Give me suggestions on how you would like this to be. The title names can be changed, the minimum post amounts can be changed, and there can be more user titles.
The old board used bee names.

Barry aught to be the King Bee.

Number of posts is a meaningless way to differ between
members, as quantity does not assure quality, but as the
site has yet to migrate to slashcode (a la Slashdot), there
is no concept similar to the "karama" system to replace it.
"Junior Member" is insulting to anyone over the age of 12,
and "Senior Member" might be insulting to anyone over 55,
so I'd consider dumping the whole concept of labeling people.

I'm sorry, I can't with a straight-face think of Barry as King Bee. Honey bee colonies are a matriarchal society. There is no King bee. Like it or not, Barry is the Queen! Long live the Queen!

Don't make me be as Graham Chapman and dress up as the queen and play her part.

What is the value of the User Title? Function Titles I can see as useful, But like Jim Fishers post #3 on this thread says, the "number of posts is meaningless." and "... consider dropping the whole concept".

>Honey bee colonies are a matriarchal society
Oh?, lets see what happens to a colony with no King bees. It would not last long. And what is the life of a King? He doesn't have to feed himself, he doesn't have to work, he does as he pleases all year long.
Fat, flying, and ,,, well you know.
BTW, there are more admin than just Barry, we don't see them. They are secret, like ghosts hiding in the background,,,, doing things,,,, like setting on their butts in front of a computer getting fat and flying around the board, and well,,, you know. ;)

Well, if we are going to have titles, rather than the more egalitarian
approach of avoiding them, I have used the title Jedi-Master Beekeeper
ever since the days when folks accepted that an advanced robot like
R2-D2 would somehow be so versatile, but somehow not have any sort
of speech circuitry.
...and one CAN be a "King Bee"...
Here's the "swarm" I caught on Halloween in NYC,
not a big swarm, but I was able to feed them lots
of carbohydrates.
I wore a bee veil that night of course, and as I was the beekeeper,
all the bees had to come home with me.
To quote Mel Brooks: "It's good to be the King"

I'm with George (Bullseye Bill's list but with Queen instead.)
I don't like being a "senior" member, because that seems to imply some level of experience, when really I'm just a beginner who asks too many stupid questions.

Hey Jim, Which one is Barry and which one is George? HA, ha, ha.

First time poster = egg?

Since Barry does not want to be a queen, let's call him THE BEEKEEPER, or KEEPER for short.
HIVEMEISTER?

IF we gotta have em (why do we need them?), lets do it Bulleye Bill's way:
Admin = Hive Manager or Beekeeper
Moderators = Guard Bee
Heavy posters = Field Bees
Moderate posters = House Bees
New posters = Nurse Bees
First Posters = Pupa
Guests = Larva

I like Bullseye's submission. Good to know I'm not the only geek who does Halloween "in uniform" with wife as a bee; it's a hit every year. Though here in Boulder, CO I sure get a lot of "well, what DO you have in that smoker" out at the pubs :)

You got it Barry.

He just doesn't want to dress up as a queen. Can't say as I blame him. I didn't get the idea he didn't like the moniker..
Guess I'll be an idiot drone..... :(
You and me. Oh, and Jim too :)
For the record, I just can't relate to Pupa and Larva levels. I mean, that's just icky. Likewise with Egg. Might as well have Hive Beetle and Mite categories.

I vote for Dave W’s idea even though Berry could suck it up and except the title of Queen Bee.

C'mon guys, this is America. Money should be the determining factor. The more ya pay, the better your title. If you pay enough, you get to assign a title of your choosing to someone who can't outbid you.

I do not use many forums and this one has always been good to me. Seeing the number of posts has given me more information than anything so far. If I was to suggest anything it would be some kind of a voting system wherein members get to vote as to the usefulness or rudeness factor. Kind of an ebay type thing where you can volunteer to give feedback on someone else. That way new beeks can weigh the usefullness of the reply. For instance, it seems that some folks spend more time here helping and giving good advice.

There is a function called User Reputation.
------
User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.
Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.
User reputation can be a derisive element of your forum so great care should be taken before a decision is made to enable it.
-------
Yet another function I'll have to give thought to. Don't want to activate something I haven't set up properly.
