I just melted down the brood box of an old dead hive in my solar melter just to see if it would handle it. It worked great. Perfectly clean wax colected but it's a very dark orange color. I'm not sure .....is it ok to use it for candles? If not what else would I use it for?

After smelling the wax today I would say it is no good for candles. It has a foul oder too it. Now what do I do with it? I have 2 other old hives I was going to melt down but now I'm wonder if shouldn't even bother if there is no use for the wax.

What about mixing it in - in small quantities - with "good" wax? You might not have the foul odor and the wax won't go to waste?

Just a thought...

Dip pinecones in it for fire starters.

And, filtering it through Bounty, panty hose, or coffee filters, or all of the above ;) may clean it up a little better.
