Just to put in a plug (preaching to the choir, I expect) for toasting with mead instead of (or alongside) champagne this New Year's Eve. A sparkling mead at a party does wonders for getting people to try mead and spread the word, so open up them barchives!

Truthfully, I often toast on special occasions with Lambic, a delightful unique beer from Belgium that seems more champagnelike than beerlike due to a truly unique fermentation and aging regimen. Lindeman's is a brand widely available in the U.S. but is by nu means the only one around. Always pushing the limits and broadening people's horizons (whether they want it or not http://www.beesource.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Mmmm, bought some Lindeman's Cassis for my mom for Christmas. Hopefully she'll share. http://www.beesource.com/ubb/smile.gif
