Has anybody made kenyan style mini mating nucs? if so how well did they work and could you provide diminsions? Also I am new to TBH am I correct in understanding that the combs will not be stuck to the sides of the hive body?

The combs will be stuck to the sides ocassionally regardless of KTBH (sloped) or TTBH (not sloped) configurations. I have seen no noticable difference between them. If you go with the TTBH and a standard Langstroth dimensions (I tried deeps and settled on mediums) then you can use standard medium nucs. I make two frame nucs for queenrearing and my TTBH bars will fit in those.
I'm sure you could do the KTBH as a mating nuc if you want, but I haven't tried it.
Some mating nucs are already top bar hives with a slight slope:

How about just the other end of the TBH? Used with a follower board.
