easiest thing you'll ever do:

nail it, bent it, nail it, paint it

That's almost what mine is:

I just couldn't see using a one by twelve for the bottom when a one by six would do.

i certainly understand that, i guess they do that so noone kicks it over?
but you could just put some handles on it and have it supported by a saw horse to keep it off the ground and look pretty.
the parent site of what i tossed in there was real interesting and insightful about beekeeping in other countries also.
the site where those plans were originally kept is down.
glad someone kept it out there though.

The ends stick out the same width and THEY keep it from falling over. I set the ends on cedar four by fours.

maybe if you had some insulation left overs you could toss it in and board it up?
not my bag, but someone might do it.

jalal, after looking at fig. 4 from the site you listed, i noticed the drawing at first glance looked a bit like a box fitting down over the tbh. in other posts some have asked about insulating tbh's for winter. it wouldn't be too difficult to make a telescoping box to simply fit over a tbh and provide some dead air insulation for overwintering.

a telescoping box?
too fancy for me.
i don't even use those for my modern hives.
nailing some boards to make it into a box while keeping the slant to help prevent them forging comb to the walls is something i might do, maybe if i had a million dollars or extra garbage lumber

I gave up on the slant and all that. I've made three out of scrap 1" boards and the bees don't attach anymore than when I spent money and made a sloped side. And I get more volume for the money.

I am 3 miles from Michigan line, just west of US 23. not sure where mason is. If you want a top bar hive I will give you one, bars and all, for $25.
