I use 9 frames in a 10 frame hive. This spring I would like to build slatted racks for my hives. I see the plan for a slatted rack here on Beesource but in looking through the new Betterbee catalog I noticed they have a special rack for 9 frames. I assume this is to keep the ventilation gaps lined up between the frames. Does anyone have a plan for a 9 frame slatted rack?

Betterbee is just running the slats parallel to the frames and spacing them to line up under them. IMO it makes no difference. I have slatted racks running both ways. They all work fine. The theory is to not interfere with natural mite drop through a SBB. I don't believe you lose that many mites through the SBB anyway.

Thank you Michael.

The possible interference with my mite monitoring by counting the fall thru the SBB has been my main hesitation in using slatted racks. But if it doesn't distort the mite count I have no problem with them and I hear they are a benefit. I think I will give the standard version a try.
