I can't remember where I heard of feeding (nucs particularly) via a 1 liter bottle like from soda.
Anyone here know how that works? (drill holes in caps or use something else to keep the feed from leaking out?)
I'm saving one liter bottles for spring but don't know what to do with them...

I use them (soda bottles) to feed nucs. I drill a hole in the nuc lid and put #8 screen over the hole on the inside. I use a frame nail held in pliers, heated with a propane torch to burn 5-6 holes in the lid. There's a "standard" lid size that is used on a variety of jars. They all work fine. The hole saw I use is slightly too small so after drilling the hole, I ream it out just a hair with a half round rasp file so the jar fits snug enough that it doesn't fall over. I also screw a piece of plastic over the hole on the outside of the lid that I can swing out of the way when I want to feed or use to cover the hole when I'm not feeding.

Some of my migratory lids have a hole just the right size for a soda bottle to fit snugly, a piece of soup can top or bottom held in place with one screw or nail swivels to cover the hole.

I usually cover the bottle so the sun doesn't heat the bottle and make it leak.

dcross - do you drill holes in the soda bottle lid with a tiny drill bit?
