My OA pipe froze and busted so I went down to Home Depot to purchase some copper fittings to fix it. They wanted $5.38 for a ½ copper pipe plug! I kid you not. Well I looked around and they had another brand of fittings. These fitting were the pre-sweated type with solder already applied. Guess how much these were? Would you believe 36 cents each.

I noticed some key fittings were priced really high. Checked at the customer service desk and sure enough they were priced properly. Has anyone noticed in the last few years Home Depot and LoweÂ’s have started to really raise their prices? Guess it is time to start shopping at the few remaining hardware stores. Guess I have nobody to blame but myself.

With prices like these I won't be able to afford to fix my OA pipes when they freeze. ;)

Copper pipe early last Spring took a 110% increase in price with fittings to follow.
Also copper wire.
Something about China buying a lot of copper.

I try to buy anything I can from the local hardware store. I live about fifty miles from nowhere and at the price of gas the big stores can't mark anything down enough to pay for the cost of going to get it. If we don't support our small businesses we will always be at the mercy of the corporate bean counters that run the big ones.

A few years ago when the Hechinger hardware store chain went bankrupt I bought enough copper fittings to last me for years and years. I paid between 9 and 14 cents for each elbow, tee, straight connector, end cap, etc.

I still have a couple of workbench drawers full of the stuff. At the rate I'm going, I'll probably run out by 2068.

Hey magnet-man, sounds like you need to "help your self" at one of carbide's workbench draws.
If he is not home, or its very late night, just leave 9 or 14 cents for everything you take. He'll think the tooth fairy stopped by smile.gif

I could save enough to pay for the gas from Tulsa, OK. :D

I always buy my fittings at a plumbing supply house. I never go to Lowes and only to Home Depot when I am in a good mood and don't mind dealing with the disorganization and awful. checkout
