Please allow me to express my gratitude for the interest everyone has shown in my "custom frames".
BeeSource members have expressed an interest in special frames, sometimes wanting only a small deviation. Existing woodenware producers, geared toward mass-production, are unable to make small changes and/or uninterested in small quantities. I have no desire to compete with anyone who is currently mass-producing bee hive frames, but would like to offer to make any (small) quantity, any size, any style of frame or part you need.
It is my desire to offer a very high quality, one-of-a-kind product that is in most cases, hand-made. I have produced custom-made wood items for many, many years, mostly as a repairs for homeowners. I have made numerous cabinets and displays, window and door parts, and many “special” items (clocks, chairs, craft items) by request, always producing and/or duplicating details unattainable by mass-producers.
To experiment w/ "extra deep brood chambers", a member requested "extra long" (18"+) end bars. I made them in both widths, the standard 1-3/8" and a narrow 1-1/4". Another member ordered just extra-long side bars, which I made to fit production-made top and bottom bars manufactured by others. My point is, I will make "any size, any style, in any quantity". If you want to try something in just one hive, I'm willing to make just a few.
Members often discuss "foundationless" frames and "trimming" side bars. When a standard 1-3/8" wide side bar is reduced to 1-1/4" wide, other "spaces" change also. The space between top bars is decreased to 3/16” (.187) and the space between side bars under shoulders is decreased to 1/8” (.125). Both become less than required “bee space”. I can produce a special frame that corrects both problems. This frame consists of a custom 1-1/4” wide side bar, a special width (15/16”) top bar, and a non-standard 5/8” wide bottom bar. The bottom of top bar is cut to form a “V” and creates a “starting point” for natural comb (these parts will NOT interchange w/ production-made items by others). Michael Bush has advocated the use of this style/ size frame for several years; I like to call them "BUSH" frames.
PRICES as of March 1, 2007 for FOUNDATIONLESS "BUSH" FRAMES - Includes ONE 15/16” “V” Bottom Top Bar, TWO 1-1/4” Side Bars, (no wire holes and no "pointed" shoulder), and ONE 5/8” (solid) Bottom Bar. Unassembled.
6-1/4“ - 25 complete frames cost $5.73 each. 50 frames, $3.86 each, 100 - $2.93 each. Please note; the more you buy, the cheaper the per-frame cost. Pricing for 200 - $2.49 each, 500 - $2.19 each, and 1000 - $2.10 each. Every quantity is priced differently. :) Decide how many you need, and I will quote that exact quantity. At this time, I do NOT stock any parts or have any frames in inventory. Each piece is made-to-order only.
9-1/8" - Add 13 cents to above (25 cost $5.86, 50, $3.99, 100 - $3.06, etc.)
Prices for special details, sizes (any width or length), etc., will be gladly quoted upon request.
These prices are for reference only. Prices subject to change without notice. Actual price will be quoted on a written contract and may be different from prices shown. PLEASE NOTE these prices are for custom-made NON-STANDARD parts (check sizes) that will NOT interchange with items made by others. However, any item can be modified to your specifications, i.e. special length, special size, or special detail(s).
Price is always important. If too high, interest and desire are stifled; too low, and quality suffers. Hopefully, my pricing method will prove acceptable to both our needs. It is my intent to make small quantities my "best price". I want to sell you frames, I want to price them fairly, and I know my costs. Sorry, I won’t haggle and all discounts are already included :).
