I have a "machine" that will make frames. Any width, any thickness, any length, any quantity.
Anyone interested in something "special"?

My "machine" is part of my woodworking tool collection. I have been a "professional" woodworkers for many, many years.

>Any pictures?
Sorry, I can't post pictures (or email) from this library computer.
I have already made special side bars in several sizes for other beekeepers. Some were more than 18" long, some 1/2" thick, and some 1-1/4 wide.
Side bars can be made to fit your (other supplier) top and bottom bars, or to fit something you dream up smile.gif
Top bars can be made special too, Vee bottom, grooved, w/ wedge.
Bottom bars are a piece-of-cake.
I'll ask again, anyone interested in something "special"?

It's a little unclear what you're saying
are you offering plans for a "Vegamatic" frame building machine, or offering to build custom equipment?
I suspect it's the later
I've seen pictures of a technique for building custom end bars where you cut the profile of the bar on a fairly long piece of 2X stock using router, saw, whatever, and then rip individual bars from that blank
I suspect it's how the manufacturers do it
In my mind it's to much trouble unless you want something custom
Same with other pieces, if it ain't custom it ain't worth the trouble unless you have free lumber and lots of time

I think OD Frank would like some Dadant Deep frames. smile.gif I'd love a price on some medium foundationless 1 1/4" frames.

A sample sent to me by Dave W is top of the line and I am preparing an order for him. MB, if you want to keep up with me, I am going to order a set of 18 1/8" deep frames that will fit a Dadant depth super with a medium super stacked on it. I have calculated that with 1 1/4" spacing ala MB it will fit 14 frames in a 30" X 20" wide box. I still have to name this super hive. Rather than stacking two old supers, which in my case date back to 1979, I might saw a new one from plywood.

Oliver aka odfrank,
Is it safe to assume you're going to work this hive one frame at a time?
As for naming the hive, how about "Titanic's Anchor"?

He might want to contact a railroad for a high lift overhead crane if those frames get fully backfilled!
And if so, wonder if anyone is willing to build him a custom extractor too?
Dave W
Thanks for the offer, but right now I have to take inventory of what I have built and expectations for next year. If I need some I'll toss you a PM.
Like MB said, what price are you expecting each for Foundationless Standand Mediums, and do you offer a price break (what qty. if so?).
[upstate shipping shouldn't be too bad - then again these shipping companies never fail to surprise me with their expense.]

Let us all know how that works out. It sounds like an interesting experiment. That's a nice unbroken comb for the queen to work.

You mean a 20" x 20?" A 30" x 20" would hold 22-1 1/4" wide frames.

Pictures of custom end bars that Dave W made for me to fit my solid top and bottom bars I'd purchased from Walter T. Kelly. Thanks again Dave! smile.gif

Wow!!! How much do you think that would weigh when it is full of bees and brood? I hope the top bar holds on or you could have a BIG mess!

What are the dimensions of that double size frame?
Did you put foundation in it?

18-9/16" tall
1-1/4" wide shoulders
4" tall shoulders, one side tapered
Custom end bars made to fit top and bottom bars from Walter T. Kelly
No foundation. Natural Cell. I havent got around to cutting a V comb guide into top bars yet. I just recently received custom end bars from Dave and plan on experimenting with them come spring. Frames are 18 9/16" tall to fit newly purchased BeeMax Polystyrene Boxes. Still contemplating if\how I want to wire frames.

Thank you BOTH!!!!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
When using ANY 1-1/4" wide side bar w/ an off-the-shelf, mass-produced, top bar that is 1-1/16" wide, the space between top bars will be only .187 of an inch (an excluder is .185). In my opinion, the .187 needs to be increased to its original width of .312". To make this increase, trim (saw) 1/16" (.0625) from ea side of production top bar BEFORE assembly.

I'm looking for medium foundationless 1 1/4 frames too.
Perhaps there are enough of us to make a large run feasible?

The size of the frame makes me think that poking a communication hole in the middle of the comb might be a good idea.

>Perhaps there are enough of us to make a large run feasible<
You guy's may have heard this one before...
A lady asked this woodworker to build her a chair.
When she came for the chair, she absolutely loved it,an asked the woodworker what she owed.
$200.00 he said.
To which she replied, great!I would like to order 5 more.
The woodworker said, then they will be $400.00 each.
WHY would that be,she asked, wide eyed.
The wood worker paused, and then said, well the first one was FUN.
Just a thought...AKA words of wisdom from a guy who bartered WAY too much wooden ware last year. smile.gif
