I'm hoping to use my Sundance II pollen trap this coming year and figure I'll have to change some hives to top entrance hives.

My inners are mostly home-made jobs that won't really accomodate cutting the side for an entrance. Was given some that are just luan board with 3/4" cleats nailed to one side which could be modified for this, but I've often wondered if i shouldn't expect these to get glued down harder to the top bars of the upper super/body, especially during the winter! I suppose slapping some 1/16" or so shims on the bottom would help.

I figure that the winter-time is the best time for converting since there isn't as much flying to disrupt and bees to confuse....

I'm also using the West SHB traps on all hives and am concerned that not having a lower entrance will mean fewer bees in the area of the trap to harrass the SHB's to seek refuge there...

Any comments, tips?

I would just put shingle shims on each side of your 1/4" inner covers. You can make an entrance reducer for winter by using 1/4" screen molding or ripping 1/4" off of a one by.
