I've seen these in the catalogs and photos. They have the peaked roof and for the fancy ones a copper roof, spiffy woodworking etc. How do these work on the inside? Is the "attic" closed off and they just sit on the inner cover like a telescoper would? Seems like one could put #8 screens (er, that is "soffit vents") on them above the inner's hole and in the outside walls for a little ventilation.

Got some time for sawdust therapy this weekend after making some boxes up...

I'd put the vent in, but I'd also put a screen on the inner cover hole.

There are for a modified version of a WBC hive.

The one I have from brushy mountain has a flat inside and physically fits and acts like a telescoping cover.

It is VERY nice

Two years ago, I built a pitched-roof outer cover for one of my hives (no screen). The bees have yet to build above the inner cover. I find no more bees above the inner cover than my conventional outer covers. The only drawback is it's heavier. But it does add to the esthetics of my beeyard and is quite a conversation piece.
