I'd like to get about 20 of them but GAbees has them for 30 bucks each. Might as well buy a regular deep hive body.

Anyone know a source for cheap nuc woodenware? Thanks.

Fordguy, I make all my own woodenware, except for frames. I've noticed there's just as much work involved in making nucs as there is in regular bodies, just less wood. If you have a table saw, I'd say make 'em yourself. Of course, time is money -- it might be cheaper for you to just go ahead and buy them. $30 is about the going rate.

I don't know where you are in SC, Fordguy, but I've gotten a lot of my woodenware from Michael Gailey in NE Georgia near Cornelia, which is about an hour north of Commerce on Hwy 441. Let me know if you want his 2006 price list.

Western Bee has complete Nucs for $13.25. Best deal I've seen.

I build mine with solid screwed on bottom. No bottom board. Not too hot here though.

It takes almost as much wood and just as much work to make one nuc as one hive body. They won't differ that much in price. Add it up. A nuc is two sides that are 9 1/2" (2 * 9.5 = 19") plus two sides that are 19 7/8" (2 * 19.875 = 39.75") which is 58 3/4" total length. A full box is two 16 1/4" (2 * 16.25 = 32.5) plus two sides that are 19 7/8" (2 * 19.875 = 39.75") which is 72.25" total length. This is a proportion of 1:1.2 which is not much difference.

Its the same number of cuts.

At $13.25 for a body, bottom board, and cover who can beat that????

I wouldn't build them for that. Western Bee has fair stuff as well.

I did the same thing this year, only I ordered the disc entrance from Betterbee so I just screwed the bottom board on without the rails. No bottom entrance at all.

Also ordered the nuc SBB from Brushy, nice stuff. It has screen on top and bottom of the board. I still need to add the rails for a tray yet. So much to do, so little time. :(
