I had read somewhere something like Langstroth based his original hives on wine crates. I came across some imported french wine wood crates in a debris box and guess what? With a 3/4" thick piece of wood fitted to the inside of each end, they end up almost perfectly beespaced to fit medium frames. Those four supers of rejected extracting combs that were scheduled to go into the solar melter are now going to become the bait in my new wine crate bee lures. Should be plenty of these crates available from high class wine suppliers.
