I had four of the polystyrene hives come in today. I'm not sure if I should use them for bee hives or drink coolers. Has anyone had any luck using polystyrene hives?

I have not tried them but I bought a sytrofoam nuc from Betterbee. I'll try it this winter and see how I think it works.

I have not used the poly hives, but I picked up two nucs last friday that were raised in the ploy hives. The beekeeper that was using them said there is a definate increase in brood, presumably due to the insulation factor.
He also cautioned that they can't be moved around a lot, they can be tender if moved, dropped, or handled rough.
This spring I lost a hive due to a lack of bees in the early spring ( we had a wicked cold Jan and Feb), I also bought two of the poly nucs to have on hand. I hate losing hives and 20.00 seemed cheap if I can use them to keep a hive alive.
