Does anyone have a recommendation for a source for #8-#5 wire mesh (besides using a beekeeping supply company)? Lowe's? Home Depo? Etc?

TWP has any type of wire mesh that you could think of. http://www.twpinc.com/twp/jsp/index.jsp

I got a roll at Tractor Supply. They special ordered, took about three days.

Our local Ace Hardware has some, and they will cut you any size you want.

There is a difference between screen and hardware (hailscreen) cloth.

Ace hardware sells a "dogwire" that is like a window screen. It is the right size for bottom boards and I have used it, but it is not welded like hailscreen and/or hardware cloth. It is a bit lighter than hailscreen, but if you are careful it will suffice. My biggest problem with it is will it take to having the propolis melted off of it with a torch? I kinda doubt it.

If you go to TSC you can get the "good" stuff, but be ready to buy a 100 foot roll.

The stuff I have is the good Hardware cloth, not like what you put on windows.

Our ace here is family run from the early 50's and its in a very old building in the middle of a national historic district, The hardware cloth is in the back 2nd story and you can see an old hand operated lift used to pick up tractors to the 2nd floor during the 20's interesting peice of equipment.
