the instructions that i have on this say that i put the mixure in a sealed mason jar and heat it in water. but, if the mason jar is closed tight, where will the heat escape?

also, concerning the cords. the instructions say 40 inches, do they need to be this long?

how many cords do i place in each hive body?

is one hive body enough for the cords or do they go in both (or even the supers).

thanks. smile.gif

I believe the mason jar is strong enough to not break or you could not seal the lid closed untill after its holdings have warmed up a little. I use a 500 ml. Pyrex flask with a rubber stopper in it. 40 inches is close to 1 meter whitch I think the good Dr. would be using in his routine (metrics). Two cords over the top bars of any brood box on the hive.

thanks.

i mixed up the cords this morning. there was another set of instructions (writen by somebody in europe) that suggested putting two cords in each super as well, but (not wanting to waste that much thymol) i think i'll just put the cords in the brood boxes.

will this be enough to be effective?

i have (i think) one more question about this. when i diluted the thymol in the oil it did not turn an amber color, but remained clear. did i do something wrong?

thanks for your help.

Hello.
1). I do not know of anyone else who may have given instructions on the use of emulsion soaked cords but I. And yes, I do recommend cords on honey supers late in the summer when you may have bees returning home robbing weak/sick hives and bringing home loads of mites.
2). The type of Thymoil that you are using when diluted into FGMO according to my instructions will be clear. However the solution may turn amber on standing but the color of the solution will not affect the strength of the solution provided that you continue to use the instructions supplied to you.
Best regards and God bless.

good to hear from you!

i don't know how to give a link that you can click on, but the "other" instructions are from

http://www.beesource.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000041.html

it was given to me on the "getting started" topic in this forum.

it sounds like i've got everything right so far.

just out of curiosity, are the cords fairly effective without thymol? would they keep the mites LOW at least? and, if so, how often should they be changed?

thanks once again! smile.gif
