I searched the archive and came up without specific directions on how to mix thymol and FGMO for fogging.
I checked the beesource home page and only gleaned info on cords.
Thanks

Thanks APK............. How often do you fog with thymol mix? I know plain FGMO is roughly every other week or so.

I'm just doing FGMO for now, Though I do have some thymol. I need to get some more FGMO then I'll start. I fog once a week for now but with thymol I'd start with once a week and then move to once a month. Depends on how much of a mite problem you have though.

My best results are to fill a quart jar or Pyrex container about half-full with 1/2 of the required oil and all the thymol (5% of what will be the total amount of oil) then heat in a microwave until the thymol is almost all dissolved. Times vary, so you'll have to watch it. No need to heat it too much for all of the thymol to dissolve.
Remove the container from the microwave with care--it's hot. Stir to dissolve the remaining undissolved thymol, then add the remaining oil (which was left at room temperature) to fill the container.
I "fortify" my fogging oil with some other essential oils.
I also find it helpful to make this concoction when my wife is going to be away for a couple of hours and I can open the windows in the kitchen.

Hello folks.
This description is irresponsible.
It has taken me six long years of careful research to establish safe, easy procedures for working with thymol to obtain effective ways and means for mite control. "Re-creating the wheel" will only lead to confusion and poor field results. Advise: please take time to read previous instructions posted in the archives.
Very best regards and God bless.

Thank you, Dr. R. for your concern for my well-being and safety mixing thymol. And thanks for your good work that has brought us to this place.
I won't take the space to tell you what happened when I explicitly followed your directions mixing thymol, but it was a near disaster. I even embarrassed myself with a four-letter expletive.
As for mixing thymol, I found something that works better for me, appearing safer for my methods, with no insults or jabs to you personally.
While I don't see myself as re-creating the wheel, I see myself as fitting the wheel to fit my wagon. And as it works for me, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
You have your six-year research in what works for you, and I thank you for your time and energy put into this method. I'm not asking for your personal endorsement, I'm not claiming any proprietory ownership of this wheel, and I'm not interested in this conversation degrading into the previous exchange that caused you to feel you had no recourse but to turn your back on the rest of us.
I'm just trying to be helpful. I like this forum as an exchange of ideas, especially when someone can take a good idea and make it better. A difference of opinion is welcome, but insults and put-downs are unnecessary.
Peace be with you,
Grant

Preparation for fogger:
You'll need:
1 part thymol
20 parts fgmo
1 mason jar
1 deep cooking pot
(water and heat source)
in mason jar, add 1 part thymol with 2 parts fgmo, secure lid
add water to and heat deep cooking pot
place mason jar in deep cooking pot and "swish" to dissolve mixture
when mixture becomes a very light amber in color, add to 18 parts fgmo

JALAL;
I think you may have oversimplified Dr. R's formula for the sake of brevity.
If FGMO weighed as much as water the one-to-twenty ratio would hold, but 1000 CC of the proper FGMO should only weigh 860 grams, while the proper wt of thymol is 50 g.
Correct me if I have forgotten, but is it not l000 CC of FGMO and 50 grams of thymol? A one-to-twenty ratio would result in a bit weaker formulation.

Hello folks.
I keep telling users that I have spent 12 years doing this FGMO thing and six years the FGMO/thymol trials not because I want readers to know how hard I have worked at this but because I have taken painful timing and careful measurements to arive at safe, efficient formulae to provide to beekeepers. There are hundreds of beekeepers who are having excellent results as they follow my instructions.
As economic, efficient and simple as the FGMO/thymol procedure is, and as long as it has taken me to arrive at this figures,I can not begin to imagine why people feel that there is need to reduce further the strength of the formulation. I keep warning users that this type of changes may result in loss of effectiveness and failure which normally will lead to discontent and claims that FGMO/thymol does not work. Please remember the old adage: "if it aint broke don't fix it."
Very best regards and God bless.

Dr. R..........
I am new to FGMO/Thymol and am wondering how often to treat. I have gotten a range of 1X/Week to 1X/Month. I would appreciate your opinion on this.
Hi Sundance, If I were you I would do a drop test first to see what your mite count is, then I would start fogging once a week. I would also do as the Dr. says about using the cords. Sundance When you start fogging dont miss a treatment if you do just do the next one soon as possible. I know you ask for the Dr. to answer this, and I realize I stuck my nose in to this question, Please write the Dr. a e-mail. Take care Sundance. JJ

i of course didnt want to try to 'fix it' myself...i simply wanted to try to simplify it.
id never use what i said unless youve read over the instructions and need a different point of view to help understand it.
