I was prepairing for the first time a FGMO/ thymol mixture for my fogger. I had weighed out the thymol crystals in the plastic pan of my Kodak chemical scale. They had been in the pan for about 3 minutes when I dumped them out. A coating of crystals stuck to the pan and was in the process of dissolving the plastic. I was not aware of the action of thymol on plastic. What action will the mixture @ 5.49% have on the green plastic tank of the fogger when stored between use? Can a bulk mix be stored in an empty dry plastic water bottle?
Or should it be a brown glass bottle?

I have crystals stored in plastic bags and bottles and had no problems.I have left the thymol mixture in my fogger with no problem.I ve stopped using the fogger and just use thymol mixture on sponges.

Hello folks.
I am back in Virginia attempting to repair storm damages. As some people would say, "misery loves company." Last Saturday, lightning hit outside my home while I was working on the internet. A surge came in through the telephone line and fried all my equipment. Needless to say, that is one reason for my silence during the past few days. There is a reprieve in all this agony, I had to buy new equipment.
Thymol!!!!!!
I have tried, time and again, to warn about the sources of thymol. Please be careful with what you buy. The one person who reports having thymol "eat" the pan in his scales, has something else than thymol. My thymol comes in plastic containers and stays that way until dissolved. Then, I keep my solutions in glass jars because I can assure myself that I can keep the glass jar lids tightly sealed. Again, please be careful with the selection of the sources of thymol!
Best regards and God bless.

Hello folks.
Having a beautiful time working my bees after returning from a fantastic two month tour of New Zealand and Spain. Guess what folks! Not ONE single mite found in my hives in Spain or Virginia!
More details to be reported soon.
Also, I am delighted to receive messages from beekeepers world-wide who are having tremendous success with FGMO.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences with me. I really appreciate your dedication and sincerity.
I would like to suggest for those of you who may wish to get information on sources of thymol to write to me at

Best regards and God bless.

Rooster 4473:
Back in March '04 I purchased from the Wall Mart pharmacists in the north west Los Angeles area a 100 gram bottle of Thymol crystal N.F. packaged by Spectrum Chemical Mfg. Corp. Gardena, CA 90248. I paid
$16.40 + tax = $17.76. I believe this is about 3.5 oz.

Hello folks.
$17.76 for 100 grams thymol. I believe that to be a fair price, provided it is pure, no fillers, no residues from the processing procedure.
Reminder:
Please do not forget to winterize your bees with emulsion soaked cords. Fog only while bees are still flying.
Happy harvests.
Best regards and God bless.

swarm trapper still in the testing stage .The mites really dislike the thymol and move to the bottom super. The treatment next time is going to be on both supers. Its been a chalenge to get the right amount of sponges in hive and keep bees in there. When first install foraging bees come to hive and stop at entrance. It is working I get a better mite drop than with minerial oil.
