Another flame back with my burgess fogger. Tried all the tricks but I semm to get at least one of these every 100th fogging. Disolving thymol in minerial oil and soaking it in sponges.Appling to top of frames. Bees sure dont like this stuff they would come to entrance and back up but seem to go in after a bit.Any advice on my new form of treatment gladly excepted.Already tried the crystals alone but they didnt seem to work.

I think the flame is usually becaue the fog gets backed up to where it contacts the flame on the coils. Don't do that and it won't flame up.

Pump the trigger once in a while. Don't over do it. Should not be a problem.

Yes, I found that you have to pump
s l o w l y and then wait for the cloud dissipate. Then s l o w l y pump it again.
I usually wait a few minutes between pumps only pump once per hive.

is the temperature maybe too hot for the thymol crystals/mixture you are using. it seems sensitive to direct sunlight and high temps to me. thymol does have a decent track record in europe.....i'm sure axtman could tell you more or direct you to some published information. think id keep trying the evaporation route if i was looking to use a thymol product.
I had several flashes due to the hives being on pallets with the back hives facing the back of the front two. The oil would build up rapidly and cause the explosion effect. SOLUTION!!! I have feeder holes in the lids that will accept a 1 1/4" piece of stainless tubing with a 45 degree sweep bend in it. I hold the fogger about 2 inches from the end of the tubing and give one pump, and it quickly goes out the entrance. This allows fogging in grass fields with little danger of setting the grass on fire.
