Now that Dr. Rodriguez has had an opportunity to spend time observing the effects of FGMO and shb I am wondering if he might comment on its effectiveness in the battle against shb. My understanding is that FGMO will kill the beetle, but is the fogging and cords a peventative against them?
Any insight would be appreciated from you Dr. R.

Thanks, Kurt

Dr. Rodrigues recently posted reports of FGMO against SHB, including two SHB trap's performance, at:

Thanks Brian!
I have seen this information before and am intrigued by it. I guess that I am looking for information that directly speaks of the fogging and cords against shb.
If a hive beetle is in the hive when fogging, does the FGMO affect it? Does that fog coat the beetle and help to break down its exterior?

I doubt that the fog will do any more to the SHB than the bee. It doesn't break anything down on the mites, just causes more grooming and helps them fall, and sufficates them because their spiracles are much smaller than a bees. A SHB is much larger and I doubt it would make a difference.

I started fogging this year and did not notice any effect on SHB. This isn't proof for or againist, but only one data point. BTW, I haven't used the cords.

I have been fogging and using cords for 2 years and they do not seem to affect SHB but I have found using GardStar ground drench around the hive seems to control the larva cycle.
