I am a beekeeper with only a few hives. I can purchase "Crystal Plus 70FG" in small, one gallon, quantities from the STE Oil Company. This can be done online, very convienient even though shipping costs more than the product. If you want to purchase "Drakeol 35", Dr. R's first choice, the manufacturer Penreco only sells it in 55 gallon drums. Does anyone know of a source for small, 1 gallon, quantities of "Drakeol 35"?

I haven't been able to find the Penreco product in a smaller size. I may be mistaken, but I don't remember Dr. R. having a favorite MO. I think that either one of these products are acceptable.

Hi newbee
I got in touch way back in 199 with Penreco and at that time they shipped 5 gal as well as larger quantities . Dr R recommended to order 5 gal for a club purchase .
I think that never panned out. Since crystal 70 is awailable in 1 Gal quantity it became the prefered item for the small keeper . They are two of us and we buy in 5 gal quantities. This shipping and handling is just another thorn in the eye . IT MIGHT JUST BE POSSIBLE TO TALK TO THE PENRECO people to see what they can do for you . Depending on where you live it just might reduce the shipping costs.
good luck to you . Or team up with another beekeeper .

Sorry for the lateness of the reply,

Don Johnson is a representative of R.M. Stevenson company and may sell Penreco product(Drakeol 35) in smaller quantities than 5 gallons. You can contact him through email at RMSTEVECO@aol.com and ask him yourself.
Don has been very helpful in the past and is very efficient at what he does.

I still buy the small bottles at K-Mart and Wal-Mart. I have called the large companies for pricing and I come out cheaper with the small bottles. Plus I have one less thing laying around as I only buy as needed.
