if you dont use checkmite wont the hivebeetles take over

I've never seen a hive beetle and they certainly haven't taken over.

I don't use Checkmite in my hives I use Gardstar as a ground drench around the hives to kill the larve as it goes to ground to pupate and this seems to control the SHB for me
I am using 4.9 mm foundation with out the harsh chemicals.
