Interested in finding an existing business for sale. As I have no experience in this business, I'd like to find someone able to stick around for a reasonable learning/transition period. Marin or Sonoma Counties (near) perferred.

if you have no experience, it might pay dividends to try to work for a commercial beekeeper who does pollination services as part of his overall business before trying to start a pollination business with no experience. It may be unlike what you think it is.

Beeman is right on. First get a summer job out in the valley with a big beekeeping company. Once you find out what the pay is, that it is a hot and physically demanding job, you'll probably decide to go to technology college.
I am in San Mateo and know of no pollinating companies around. Check out the websites of the Santa Clara Beekeepers Guild, the Alameda Group, and the Gilroy Beekeepers. In those groups are the closest commercial beekeepers.

Most commercial beekeepers that I know also do pollination. Pollination is just another part of a very large picture. Do you have a semi truck to haul bees from location to location. Do you have forklifts to lift pallets of bees? Are you ready to live your life on the road traveling to the northern plain states for the summer, extracting there, moving back to california for the winter, then early spring move bees onto almonds, 2 weeks later onto citrus, then onto apples/ other fruit, then hopefully an extraction in california, back on the truck and back to the Northern Plains for the rich honey flow. Is this what you want?
