Some of you may know that I work with the Biodiesel project here at the University.

Well several years ago I was attempting to get a Demo vehicle in to the USA that would be strange and draw attention to the program that ran on Biodiesel. Mainly to promote the program at things like football games and events on campus. Something that would attract attention.

So my first thought was to get Bajaj themselves involved. And initialy it looked good. Al Kolvites, President of Bajaj USA, at one point had a promise from the company to let a few come over. And we were to get one of those. But at the very end Bajaj just refused to export them. And Al was despondent but... thats the way it goes. So low and behold I post up here about it and I am answered by another person doing some work in England converting them.

And he finaly pulls it off. Took over a year from the time he and I first agreed to it all. And I believe he had been working on it long before that. But... two of them are here. They exceed most emmission standards. Euro II and English made motors. They are Greaves single bangers with a reversable transaxle.

This will be used to haul the raw material from the dining halls. So it will also get a tank and pumps.

But here are some shots of Clemson's unit.

I start reinstalling the cab and doing the lights and graphics for it tomorrow. There will be Strobes and there will be rotators and there WILL be a loud Air horn! :D

I do not think its all Aluminum. I think Greaves part of it is mainly steel, but a lot of what you can see is the Aluminum housing of the Drive system. Which appears to be a modified Lambro (Lambretta truck) transaxle. It is air cooled. Simple single banger. Compression release valve and electric starter. Compression relieved and that allows it to spin over and start spinning then you let the compression back to it and it fires. Running on pure compression. Only way to cut it off is to cut off fuel.

That transaxle runs 4 speeds both forward and... reverse if you dare.

Torqey motor but top speed is low. Very low gearing too. So its a real little truck. But it maybe hits 40mph or so.

In those pictures the Cab is sitting around in panels and not on. So it looks somewhat different with the cab on. I will update some of that later as I get those installed.

Would make a nice hive mover eh?

I will correct myself. On further examination today... that motor is more Aluminum than I had thought. Its case is Aluminum. I will assume the Barrel is Aluminum fins and Iron sleave lined and probably the head is cast steel or something. I don't know much of something that could handle that kind of compression otherwise. Although normaly the Cyclinder is in a Gas motor. But often the head is Aluminum in those. I doubt this one is but cannot get a good look at it. The shroud is covering it all. I will know more about the motor when my documents arrive including the Shop manual from Greaves.
