Being from western Pa. (near Pittsburgh) I just had to ask who everone on the forum thought was going to win this Sunday? Even though I personally don't care one way or the other, a fellow worker says that she can't believe that anyone in their right mind would think that Seattle has a chance.

Been a Steeler fan forever. However, Seattle didn't get to the Super Bowl by invitation. They've got a chance. After all, the Steelers weren't supposed to be there, themselves - Indianapolis was...

Cheers,
Doug

Seeins how my Bills didn't make it, either team would make a fine world champion team, much better than NE, LOL. This is Seattle's first trip to the SB, so if they won, that would be cool. But on the other hand, this would be the first time a rookie QB won, so that would be cool too. Let the games begin..............

Ah, Doug, I've always found you to be reasonable and have wondered, as reasonable as you are, how we frequently end up on just the other side of the argument from one another. Now I see the problem...

"Been a Steeler fan forever."

So are you a transplant, or one of those weak souls who grew up amid the Steeler's great run of the 70's, and just found it easier to switch than fight?

The correct answer, of course, is that the Steelers were just used by god as an instrument of revenge against the hideous orange abortion that is the Broncos. They will now be discarded like so much used toilet paper, as is appropriate. The Bettis fumble in the Indy game was divine foreshadowing.

Darrel,

*LOL*

>So are you a transplant, or one of those weak souls ...(and other comments that I suspect come from a *snicker* Browns fan????)

Both, actually. Became interested in football a year or so before the Steelers glory years in the late 70's - early 80's (was a suffering Steelers fan in the late 80's). Still call Linglestown, Pa. my "home", though I've been in N.E. Ohio longer than anywhere else. And for anyone who knows where Linglestown is located, I've *never* liked the Eagles. Period.

Glad my team could've been of service in regards to the Broncos. Maybe some day there'll be some reciprocation with the Patriots... Guessing you were rooting for the "Dark Side" in at least one of the playoff games?

OH. I thought "super bowl" was a reference to some new kind of syrup feeder...

"Guessing you were rooting for the "Dark Side" in at least one of the playoff games?"

Yeah, I actually donned a Darth Vader mask for the event. I had to take several showers afterwards. I'm still kind of dizzy and I feel like I stink, but at least I got to see a couple shots of old horsey-teeth Elway looking glum.

An unfortunate side effect of this whole thing is that I kind of like Bettis now. He's a class act, has asthma, and almost handed the Steelers one of the most gut-wrenching defeats in football history. If only the thug who picked up the ball hadn't been stabbed in the thigh the night before. Ah well, there is no joy in Cleveland sports, not even Shadenfreude.

Well if the Pack isn't playing (grow up in WI and you need to follow the games to know how to deal with your teachers in the morning or to know what to talk about ice fishing :D ), I'll usually pull for someone underdoggish. I'd dig seeing a first S.B. victory for Seattle, plus there's the Holmgren thing to consider. I tend to enjoy the football rather that one team or another (gasp!).

Pittsburgh will take it with a good show. Bettis will not be a dominant part.

I predict the entire seahawks cheerleading team will come down with jock itch the day before the game causing a quarentine of the team to the space needle for a week and the Denver Broncos will be asked to fill in featuring a special post retirement comeback by John Elway!

Go Broncos!

If anyone has a subscription to Sport Illustrated they should post the article by Rick Reilly about Seattle. It's hilarious.

found it:

oops. I posted the entire article, but deleted it after I remembered that stuff about copyrights. Anyway, look it up. It's good.

QB's wearing number 8 are undefeated in SB's, while #7's are 3-5, thus making Mike Holmgren the first coach ever to win a Bowl with two different teams.

But I'm going up to Green Bay to see BR549, and if they ask how the Packs season went, they're gonna wish they had a stage like in "Blues Brothers"!

Well I must admit that God works in mysterious ways, but now I see his wisdom. The Steeler's "one for the thumb" turns out to be one of the worst football games ever played, an embarrassment to themselves, the NFL, and our nation as a whole.

the highlights....

The three minute delay while the promoters tried vainly to find pull an "MVP" out of this mess.

A "blocking below the waist" call on a quarterback making a tackle on a player running down the field with the ball--a theoretcally impossible call, very possibly the worst one ever made in any football game at any level.

A phantom holding call that brought back a Seatlle first down at the 1, effectively taking away a touchdown, a call even the rah-rah- superbowl commentators couldn't avoid calling bogus.

A ticky tac offensive pass interference call that took away another Seattle touchdown, bad enough that even the rah-rah-superbowl commentators couldn't avoid calling bogus.

The worst clock management ever seen from a coach other than Bill Cower.

The worst superbowl halftime show in history with one of the fakest exited floor crowds I've ever seen. How much do you have to pay a 20 year old kid to jump up and down for 9 minutes and pretend not to be grossed out by sexual gyration of the seventy year old English fruitcake his stoner aunt used to like?

Well, congratulations, Stiller's fans.

I would have to agree the officiating left much to be desired. I like Cower, I'm glad he finally got his ring, it was a fitting end to the bus trip. Just a game though isn't it, people are still going to bed hungry in Appalachia! That's the real tradjedy tonight.

The Rolling Stones were great, as always, given the time and venue.

And people are going to bed hungry in your own hometown, not just Appalachia. I presented a workshop on food insecurity in Albuquerque Saturday. Poverty and hunger are increasing in the US in spite of pronouncements to the contrary. Requests for assistance from food banks are up significantly, especially from the elderly. The wealth gap (the ratio that measures the wealthiest 5% and the poorest 20%) is higher than at any time since the Depression.

The game was amusing, a nice distraction on a Sunday evening.

Sorry to see. Poor calls will keep a cloud over this one for a long time. Bad for the NFL, Bad for Hawks, Bad for Steelers. All in all no winners in this one. Oh well, at least Jagger didn't have an outfit malfunction.

Sorry, guys. No sympathies from this Steelers fan. Let the NFL appologize to some *other* team for bad officiating for a change. It's karma, as far as I'm concerned. smile.gif

The only down side fo rme is listening to Trivisano go whah-whah-whah about it all for the next couple of days.

Cheers,
Doug

"The only down side fo rme is listening to Trivisano go whah-whah-whah about it all for the next couple of days."

Trivisano is everything that is wrong with America. The greatest threat from global warming is that it might prolong the days until that negative whiney loser packs up for Florida.

"Let the NFL appologize to some *other* team for bad officiating for a change."

I wish they would just clean up their tired act. When a guy calls blocking below the waist on a tackle of the ball, you know something is wrong. On the sack before the int in the fourth quarter they also clearly missed an offsides on the guy who got the sack. So the series from second and 4 was
A. phantom holding call that basically took off a score and moved the ball 10 back,
B. no call on the offsides sack for another net 15, then
C. the interception with the "blocking below the waist" tackle for another 15. This just starts to get illegitimate.

Nothing against the Stillers. Well of course, I have everything against the Stillers. And they played as badly as any team that ever won a super bowl. But they deserved it as much as anybody else I guess, for winning their way there on the road. They had to get there in order to have it randomly handed to them. It's just too bad this ref thing always becomes the story. But as NPR noted this morning, the NFL is the only major sports league without full time refs, so what do you expect?

DCH,
What's really sad about the whole thing, is how some people will blame the officials for their bad calls in this game and pretty much ignore the bad officiating that occurs throughout the season. The Steelers had to overcome three horrendous calls in the AFC game and still made it to the super bowl. All that matters now is who took the trophy home. Cleveland has never yet even made it to the super bowl. smile.gif

"What's really sad about the whole thing, is how some people will blame the officials for their bad calls in this game..."

Just because there are other bad calls in other games does not mean the bad calls in this game are justified. The Polamalu int call-back is, for the record, the second-worst call I have ever seen. As much as I hate the Stillers, I wouldn't have wanted to see any game decided on something like that- it ruins the game itself. It takes away from the blaze of glory in which the beloved Browns will ultimately shine forth, fulfilling all the ancient prophesies and ushering in the age of universal peace and prosperity.

It's just too bad we didn't see a nice clean game...that's all. These superbowl refs are supposed to be the best of the best...and they called "blocking below the waist" on a defensive player tackling the ball. If that's your idea of competence...

er...

ah...

I forgot, you DID vote for that guy.

"The only blaze that I remember lately from the brownies is when they flame out whenever they play the Steelers."

That is because you are a heathen, and heathens and modern Repulicans are always looking backwards. God has to purify the hearts of the Browns fans by purging all the weak souls from the ranks. "Cow-ah" is the false prophet that leads the second wave of temptation, which has now culminated in this last Stiller's win. It clearly required divine intervention. We are on the cusp of the end times!

Repent, Carbide, Repent!

"Cow-ah" is the false prophet that leads the second wave of temptation, which has now culminated in this last Stiller's win. It clearly required divine intervention. Ah Darrell, the ranks of the unbelievers (Brownie fans), will hopefully one day see the light (the aura given off by the Steeler faithful) and be welcomed into the fold. The Steelers win was clearly pre ordained with the wins over the Bungles, the Colts and the Broncos.

The Steeler fans will continue to pray for those who suffer from the embarrassment, humiliation and degradation of being Brownie fans. Those that refuse to see are even worse off than those that can not see.

Repent, Carbide, Repent! To repent requires one to admit to doing wrong. Since the Lombardi trophy now resides in Pittsburgh it is obvious that those in the wrong are those that believe that the Brownies are worthy of even the slightest amount of reverence or devotion.

"...Since the Lombardi trophy now resides in Pittsburgh"

Your false idol will be your undoing. Destruction is rushing in on the filthy Stillers from every angle, even as they revel in their sin. Witness the exodus of the Last Good Man on the Stillers, Brother Jerome, who strained mightily to halt the day of judgement by dropping the ball on the 1. But not even Bettis could interfere with God's great plan to draw as many heathens as possible into the gulf of false belief with this falsest of victories. Thus He had pre-smited that DB from Indy in the leg with a knife the night before.

I quake for your soul, Carbide. Follow Brother Jerome's lead and quit on the evil Stillers, before it is too late!
