i am thinking about upgrading from my Remington 7400 semi auto.
Any opinions on the "best" semi out there" Accuracy and no jambing are paramount.
I am smitten with the Browning BAR and the Benelli R1. The downside (for me) on the R1 is it is only available in 30-06 and 300 calibers. I am partial to the 270 Win. I wouldn't grip with the 06' though.

I LOVE my 6.5mm Swedish Ljungman AG42. smile.gif But you'd have to find one.

MB those are nice guns but cost almost as much as a Benellie R1........

I have a BAR in 308 Winchester. Never had a jamming problem, nice gun.
I reloaded for it with SB dies.
I loaded very close to max. out of a Speer Nine book. (watch for pressure signs)
I stopped hunting with it and now only use my TC White Mountain Muzzleloader.

I shoot mostly whitetail, occasional pronghorn, possible elk. Also use the 270 with 100 grains for coyote.
As I said I am partial to the 270 but would reconsider the 06' if I fall in love with the Benelli R1.

I like the Remington 7400 and have not had an issue with it. Been deadly for me. Pegged my 5X5 on a medium run at 130 yards with open sights.
I have read about jamming problems with it even though I haven't had them yet myself.
My dad gave me his M-1 Garand (to defend myself against the frequent bears around our home yard) about 5 yrs ago. Accurate to 1000 yds (although not when I'm using it), never jams. A little heavy (8lbs I think), takes some serious loading practice if you don't want to loose your right thumb, but what a fine piece of shootery! Can't use rifle (except black powder) for big game in our section of Upstate New York so it's only for pleasure.

That is what the web site says, but I would swear that it came in a third (308?) the first year they came out (beautiful wood only). Also in two barrel lenghts, 16 and 20.

How is the R1 holding up Bill??

I've never heard of any problems from the people I have sold them to. They are beautiful pieces of craftmanship, almost too nice to take outside.
My price sheet shows 308, 30-06, 300 WM, 300 short mag, and 270 short mag. They are all shown in the 22 inch and the mags in the 24 inch too.
I still have one of last years models in the 300WM 24" @ $925 + Shipping.
All of this years models are $1000 + shipping.
