do flies taste good to dogs?

i recall from the recesses of my cearly childhood memories that:flies taste bad.so why will my dog go after them like they are tenderloin nuggets?stinging insects seem to be tasty too.

From the way my cats go after them, l'd say flies are almost as tasty as moths.

Of course both have to be freshly caught. Dry stuff on the window sill never gets eaten.
