I checked one of my hives that I palced the cell builder into and out of the 20 grafted.. non took.
Why?
This is frusterating.
The only thing I can think of is that I placed the cell builder into a hive that was queenless and that was a package shooken into it a month prior. Could the abcents of population have been the cause to this? I thought it only took some amount of bees to start cells.
Maybe I grafted badly
Maybe the larvae got dried out.
any other suggestions???
I hope my 24 I grafted out in the other beeyard had a better take.

tecumseh politely ask:
this is likely rhetorical chef, but I would call them a cell starter.

think.... lots and lots of young nurse bees. so first off whatever device you are using requires a quantity of bees to fill the box to the very brim and the age of these bees should typically be as young as possible. so both numbers and age do count in this regards.

In my experience it's almost always the quantity of bees that's the issue. Of course they should have plenty to feed with too.

Was there a queen or a virgin in the builder?

there was a queen but I took her out a day before
The funniest thing is, when I looked at the grafting frame, no take. So I looked at the other frames and no cells were built at all.
this puzzels me.

Not enough new worker bees.
They need to be about to swarm.

I think Tecumseh has the answer, not to many nurse bees in a 30 day old package.I would shake some frames of young bees from other hives a day before you put in the grafted frame.
Chef keep up the good work at least you are trying and learning.
