Hi, this weekend I found my first Hive Beetle larvae.
It was in a nuc that was formerly a mating nuc. It had 4 deep frames, but somehow lost its queen early on. So there was lots of comb but not enough bees.
I've also noticed beetles in my other mating nucs, but, so far, have not caused a problem. The rest of my mating nucs were 2 medium frames. I have added from 1 to 5 frames to these after the queen was mated.
What do queen rearers do about SHB?
I'm thinking summer queen rearing is pretty much out of the question.
