hi all:
quick question about mating nuc box.
just got my new queen just arrived. my nuc box is ready and outfitted with entrance disk.
will the queen mate inside box if I set the entrance disk to only allow workers out.
I know she has to fly to mate

If you know that the queen has to fly to mate, why are you asking this question? Maybe you aren't asking the question that you thought that you were?
Which just arrived, your new queen or your nuc box? I can't tell by your sentence stucture.
If you got a queen through the mail, from a queen breeder, then she is already mated. So you don't need to open the disk so that she can fly. She won't, until next years swarming season.

That was my question.

Hopefully not.

I'm asking the question to see if there is anyone that experimented with caging the queen and forcing in box mating. I'm using drones from a queen that I have raised. since I have never learned how manually inseminate a queen, I thought it would be the next best thing is to have maximum control of environment . i.e. nuc box.

without a mating flight (with the given limitations of no artifical insemination) the queen will not mate and will not be accepted by any worker bees to whom you might wish to introduce her. although this new queen might appear to be perfectly acceptable to you she will never appear to be acceptable to a group of workers.
