In bringing back virgin queens in "roller" type cages from out-apiaries, can you install them in queenless nucs just made up by shaking bees into a hive or nuc upon returning to another apiary?
Would it be better to shake the bees from the original cell builder?
Thank you.

I've always tried to leave them queenless overnight first. I'm not sure what the results would be if I didn't.

I've always considered that acceptable without leaving them overnight since they are already familar with that queen. That has always worked well.
It's the hair curler cages in general that I have troubles with. If I put them on before day 14 (from when the egg was layed) the cell usually gets damaged and the queen doesn't emerge. If I don't put food in it the queen retreats to her cell and dies there. If I put honey in the end the queen emerges and drowns herself in the honey. If I put a small amount of granulated honey in the end it seems to prevent that, but if I leave her in the hair curler cage more than a day the number of queens that don't make it is high. In two days almost none of them are still alive. Maybe I'm missing something.
