For those of you who requeen and save your old queens in a bottle of alcohol for a bee lure. Do you prefer the isopropyl alcohol, which has a strong smell of its own, or methyl alcohol, which has a very faint odor?

The alcohol will quickly evaporate anyway, so I think it irelevant, but you can use Everclear if you want "organic" methyl. I just used isopropyl because it was handy.

How does this work? What is the process here in preserving the queen and then how is she used as a lure?

The process is just dump her in the alcohol alive when you are disposing of her. The way you use it is to sprinkle a few drops of the alcohol in the bait hive.
