I read in a book called "The Beekeepers Handbook" that the only places in the world without varroa are Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia. This book was published a while ago. Is that statement still true about the varroa free lands? If not, when did varroa get introduced into those areas?
Does anybody think that there might be some places such as some islands that might not have varroa?

The greater part of the South Island and Stuart Island of New Zealand are still varroa free.Varroa was detected in the Upper North Island in May 2000.In June this year varroa was detected at Stoke (Nelson) the most northern part of the South Island. All 600 pluss hives within a 10 Kilometer zone were shipped to the upper North Island a couple of weeks ago.Sixty feral hives detected to date in the erradication zone are in the process of being destroyed. The distance across Cook Straight(ocean) between the North and South Island is 26 kilometers.
