Decrease in mites?

Today I took out the mite tray which over a month ago showed 9 mites in a 3 day test; average 3 therefore OK. That was when the hive was smaller. Today after good buildup, I checked again after 3 day test and could find not a single mite.

Does this happen sometimes? I have used no treatment of any kind and same procedures as before. Am I missing something?

Maybe you don't currently have a significant infestation? You could simply have a low level of mites, and one generation was dying out when you last checked, while right now they're all inside cells. Keep watching.
